We are a two-boat dive school on the black-sand shore at Jemeluk Bay. No crowds, no rush, just careful diving with people who have logged these sites for years. Come learn to breathe underwater, or come back for the reef you have been meaning to see again.
Coral & Current started in 2011 with one boat, a compressor under a tarpaulin, and a handful of tanks we carried down to the water ourselves. We wanted a school that felt like a friend’s house, not a factory: small groups, unhurried briefings, and enough time to actually enjoy the reef instead of ticking it off.
We sit on the coast road in Amed, in the fishing village of Jemeluk in the far east of Bali, where Gunung Agung drops almost straight into the sea. The beach here is dark volcanic sand, the bay is protected, and the reef begins a few fin-kicks from the shore. It is one of the gentlest places in Bali to put your face in the water for the first time.
Most of our crew grew up in these villages. They know which day the current on the Liberty wreck at Tulamben will be kind, where the garden eels sit, and which warung down the lane does the best nasi campur when you surface hungry. We keep the school small on purpose, so that the person who checks your gear in the morning is the same person you follow underwater.
We teach in English, Indonesian, and enough German and French to get the important bits across. Whether it is your first breath from a regulator or your five-hundredth logged dive, you will get the same thing here: careful diving, honest advice about the conditions, and a mug of coffee waiting on the deck.

Every course runs in small groups and starts in the calm shallows of Jemeluk Bay. Prices are per person in Indonesian rupiah and include tanks, weights, and the boat where a site needs it. Certification fees for the training agency are added at cost.
Half day · no experience needed
Your first breath underwater, with an instructor holding your gear the whole way. A short briefing on the sand, then a guided shallow dive along the house reef to about six metres. No certificate, just the day you find out you love it.
Three to four days · certification
The full beginner certification that lets you dive anywhere in the world to eighteen metres. Theory at your own pace, confined-water skills in the bay, then four open-water dives on the Amed reefs. We keep it to four students so nobody gets left behind.

Already certified? Come diving with us. A single guided dive on the Amed house reefs, or a morning run north to the USAT Liberty wreck at Tulamben, one of the most beautiful shore dives anywhere. We leave early to beat the day boats and keep groups to four divers a guide. Ask about our ten-dive package if you are staying a while.
Amed is a shore-diving coast, so the sea is usually calm and the entries are gentle. Here is how the sites near the shop tend to behave through the season. We check them every morning and tell you the truth, even when the answer is “let’s wait an hour”.
Conditions written on the whiteboard by the compressor each morning. If in doubt, call the shop before you drive out, the road along the coast is worth taking slowly anyway.
Arrive by 8, kopi on the deck, and we talk through where the water is best that day and what you want out of the dive. Gear gets fitted while it is still cool.
Most sites are a short walk or a five-minute jukung ride. Briefing on the sand, buddy checks, and in we go, in a group of no more than four.
Rinse the gear, log the dive together over a plate of nasi campur from the warung next door, and decide whether the afternoon is worth a second dive.
The person who fits your gear in the morning is the person who dives with you. There are four of us, and we like it that way.

Booked the Tulamben trip on Komang’s advice and we had the wreck almost to ourselves at sunrise. He spotted a frogfish I would have swum right past. Proper local knowledge.
